Protect Rodborough's Green Heart

Rodborough is surrounded by some of the most important natural spaces in the Stroud Valleys from the wildflower grasslands of Rodborough Common to Rodborough Fields and the banks of the River Frome.

These places are under increasing pressure. Stroud’s previous Local Plan was withdrawn after planning inspectors told the Council to withdraw it, creating uncertainty about where future development will take place.

The new Local Plan must now plan for at least 846 new homes every year. The Council has also recognised that housing growth can increase recreational pressure on Rodborough Common, particularly through increased visitor numbers and dog walking.

But local people are already showing what can be achieved.

The Rodborough Fields & Frome Banks Preservation Group has successfully brought a 9.42-acre meadow and woodland into community ownership, following a campaign backed by more than 400 pledges. The group aims to protect wildlife, improve biodiversity, maintain public access and create opportunities for education and volunteering.

We want to build on that success: protecting Rodborough’s green spaces, restoring nature and ensuring future housing development strengthens rather than damages our environment.
