Stroud is facing major housing growth.

The previous Local Plan was withdrawn after planning inspectors concluded it should not proceed, creating uncertainty about where and how future development will take place.

The Council is now preparing a new plan, with the Government requiring Stroud District to plan for at least 846 new homes every year — around 12,700 over 15 years.

For communities around Stroud and Rodborough, that could mean significant additional pressure on already stretched local services.

Too often, new housing is approved while GP surgeries are left to cope with hundreds of additional patients without the capacity to provide more appointments.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for a simple principle: No Doctors, No Development.

Developers should contribute properly towards expanding local GP services alongside new housing, so healthcare capacity grows with our communities.

If Stroud is going to build more homes, let's make sure we build the services people need too.
