At the General Election in Stroud on 7th June 2001, 55175 votes were cast (approximately 70% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

David Drew (Labour): 25685 votes.

37.4%

Neil Carmichael (Conservative): 20646 votes.

10.9%

Janice Beasley (Liberal Democrat): 6036 votes.

3.5%

Kevin Cranston (Green Party): 1913 votes.

1.6%

Adrian Blake (UK Independence Party): 895 votes.
