For the second time in the space of a month freak weather has caused extensive flooding in Gloucestershire. Stroud has been hard hit, with streams, rivers and the Canal all breaking their banks and flooding homes and work places.

Residents speaking in the wake of the weather spoke to Liberal Democrat Town Councillor Andrew Fisk saying how something had to be done immediately to prevent the Canal from breaking its banks and flooding the surrounding houses and factories. In other areas long running problems such as blocked or insufficiently large enough culverts caused extensive flooding. Large parts of Slad Road and Stratford Road were underwater.

Clearly a solution is needed fast. Flood Defences need to be re-forced and Flood Attenuation Schemes need to be adopted for existing developments and waterways. This needs to happen swiftly and not wait on 5 or 10 year plans.
